It doesn’t take long for even the most casual visitor to realise that the Costa del Sol has an alter-ego; not only is this stretch of Spain’s coast famous for the reliability of its warm temperature, but it is equally proud of its reputation as one of the world’s key destinations for golfing tourists.
The area that extends from Málaga to Gibraltar alone contains quite literally dozens of courses, some of which have hosted some very important tournaments. Most famously, in 1997 Valderrama was chosen as the venue of the Ryder Cup, an event that attracted golf fans from around the world, many of who became repeat visitors. Continue reading »

The coastal road that follows the shores of the Costa del Sol offers plenty of glimpses of pretty beaches, secluded coves and spectacular views all the way along the shore to Gibraltar and North Africa, but if you want to get a little closer and enjoy it all at your leisure there is the popular Paseo Maritimo.
Recently extended, this pretty palm-fringed seaside promenade acts as a coastal thoroughfare for pedestrians, joggers, cyclists and roller-skaters. Extending westwards from central Marbella, this pretty pedestrian boulevard has the sea and beaches on one side, and the gardens, apartments, hotels, restaurants, cafés and shops on the other. Popular with morning joggers and evening strollers, it becomes a hub of activity during the summer months, when buskers and stall holders set up shop on the little squares that occasionally extend outwards from the promenade. Following the opening of the new terminal, known to frequent fliers as T3, it has been announced that Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport will soon benefit from the addition of a second runway.
This will enable the Costa del Sol to welcome even more visitors from all over Europe and beyond. It has been estimated that T3 has already resulted in a doubling of capacity, as well as presenting new arrivals with a very stylish first impression.
New figures, published by AENA reveal that, since November 2010, 9.5 million passengers have passed through the terminal after touching down on a total of 80,000 flights. Continue reading »
